What is oxygen saturation?
The oxygen saturation is a helpful indicator to judge quality of the breathing and lungs. For a reading, the percentage of oxygen carried by the hemoglobin is measured. This can be done with a pulse oximeter or a blood test.
Advantages of a pulse oximeter
A pulse oximeter lights through thin parts of the body and judges the amount of oxygen this way. In opposition to a blood test the pulse oximeter doesn't work invasive and is more pleasant and quick.
What is spO2?
The saturation of blood is specified in spO2. The reading stands for the percentage of red blood cells that carry oxygen.
Rating the saturation with oxygen
The readings are to be judged individually. Depending on age, healthiness and way of life, the recommended guide values vary.
