Since you are often not in a relaxed and homely atmosphere at the doctor's practice, values measured at the practice are often higher than those measured at home. This effect is also called "white coat hypertension". On the other hand, it can be the case that stress in everyday life can lead to higher values being measured at home than in the practice. Another reason for this can be to do with the normal changes in human blood pressure in the course of the day. Changes of up to 30 mmHg in a short time can be connected to physical activity (sport, mental exertion, stress, stomach, etc.). We therefore recommend measuring your blood pressure at roughly the same time each day under comparable conditions.
